For immediate release

10 May 2022

A fire broke out in a house owned by Communicare on King George Street, Ruyterwacht on the afternoon of 9 May 2022.

Regrettably, the property was extensively damaged and cannot be occupied. The roof of the house caught alight and caved in. All doors and windows were burned. Tenants occupying the house managed to escape the blaze without any injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. A gentleman has been taken into custody for questioning by the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Communicare awaits a report on the fire from the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Department.

“While I am saddened by the news of the fire, it is a relief that none of our tenants were injured. We await the outcome of investigations from both the SAPS and the Fire Department. Community members who have any information on the cause of the fire are urged to contact SAPS,” said Makhosi Kubheka, COO of Communicare.
