Anthea Houston is the CEO of Communicare. She is President of the National Association of Social Housing Organisations (NASHO) and a member of the Continued Professional Development Committee of the Institute of Human Settlements Practitioners in South Africa as well as a Board member of the US-Africa Collaborative. An advocate for housing rights and sustainable urban development, Anthea has worked on low income housing delivery in South Africa for nearly three decades. Anthea and has served on advisory and reference groups for three local Ministers Housing. She was previously Chief Executive Officer for Development Action Group (DAG), a leading South African non-profit organisation focused on low-income housing and urban development. She has also served two terms as non-executive Director on the National Housing Finance Corporation, a state-owned housing development finance entity. Anthea also completed two terms as Council member on the Regulatory Body for the Architectural Profession. She has undertaken field studies in the East and Southern African regions whilst conducting research on housing and housing microfinance in East and Southern Africa. Anthea holds an MBA and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from the University of Cape Town. She is a Fellow of the second class of the Africa Leadership Initiative-South Africa and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
