Communicare is proud to announce the recent donation to St Anne’s Homes to assist in their support of women and children in need.
St Anne’s mission is to provide shelter and support for pregnant, abused and homeless women with young children through a holistic self-empowerment programme that develops social, personal, creative and vocational skills within a framework of Christian values and discipline, a culture of mutual learning, accountability and respect for the unique value of every human being.
Communicare is proud to have contributed to the fulfilment of this mission by donating the Ruyterwacht property to the non-profit organisation.
“The donation from Communicare will help us continue providing the necessary care and support to women and their children while assisting them to find work,” explains Joy Lange, Executive Director of St Anne’s Homes.
“As our shelter only offers 4 months’ stay, the donated homes will offer transitional housing for 6 to 12 months to help empower and sustain our residents”.
St. Anne’s vision is to see women with children living free from abuse, poverty and discrimination by offering the world a model of care and social empowerment.
The organisation currently has three dedicated homes. Each home serves a unique function in our service to women and their children. The women are empowered and involved in the running of the homes. The Ruyterwacht home accommodates residents that are employed but struggling to find housing. Here, women and their children have transitioned to live more independent lives.
“This donation will help St Anne’s Homes to continue its vital work in supporting women and children who have been victims of abuse. We hope that this donation will make a difference in the lives of those who need it most,” says Thabo Mashologu, Communicare’s General Manager for Property Development and Investment.
St Anne’s offers several programmes which includes educare, counselling, therapy for the traumatised children in the shelter and group work for women who have been traumatised by rejection, abuse and rape. They also offer opportunities for training in a field of their choice, an ongoing life skills training programme and spiritual guidance.
Having had a lease with Communicare for years, St. Anne’s Homes plans to use the rent savings to expand its programmes and continue to aid and support survivors of gender-based violence. “We are deeply humbled by this generous donation from Communicare and have enjoyed a longstanding partnership in keeping the women and children who seek our services safe,” says Joy.
