For Phumelela Mnamata (40), a former Reyger Court tenant, completing her Diploma in Real Estate at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology without funding seemed impossible. That was before she stumbled upon an opportunity that would change her life forever—the Vulamathuba Empumemelo Bursary.
The Discovery
“I saw a Vulamathuba poster on the noticeboard of our complex in Brooklyn when collecting my mail,” she says. Reading the poster, she discovered that this initiative offered financial assistance for higher education studies.
“It covered registration fees, tuition costs, and textbooks up to a maximum of R3 500. It was perfect!” Not only did the bursary help with her studies, but it also lightened her financial struggles.
“It covered everything, which meant I could save a little and pay all my debts. I even built a good credit score to qualify for my own house!”
The Future
Where to from here? With her new qualification, Phumelela has her sights on a better future. “I am in the process of registering to sell property part-time,” she says excitedly.
We are confident that Phumelela will soar. Her story serves as a testament to the power of education and reminds us that achieving our goals is possible – all it takes is determination, effort, and support.
