Communicare, as an organisation, is committed to providing opportunities for more people to live with dignity and improve the quality of their lives through economic mobility. As such, we do our best to create employment pathways for young people. For five years now, through our Compass Internship programme, we have provided work experience for over 50 unemployed youths. This programme has been instrumental in creating a pipeline pool of talent for many employers in the South African economy.

We are proud to have given five of our 2021 Compass interns more permanent roles in our organisation.

Tell us about yourself and your educational background.

I am a Real Estate graduate. I obtained my qualification from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, and I am registered with the South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession (SACPVP).

I also completed a certificate in Project Management during my Compass internship with Communicare.

I can describe myself as open to learning. I am an introverted extrovert who enjoys playing table tennis, hiking and keeping up to date with current affairs.

In which Communicare business unit did you complete your internship and who was your mentor?
I was in the Rental Property Management department under the mentorship of Kara Ascot. I observed a lot of good leadership and management skills from her. She is definitely a mentor who makes you enjoy and love what you do! Her guidance has shaped me in such a way that I am not afraid to take risks.

Would you say the experience gave you a competitive advantage to secure a more permanent role post the internship?

Throughout my internship, I was dedicated and worked hard. These two qualities made me stand out and be able to get where I am.

What do you enjoy about your role and how long have you been doing it?

As a rental administrator, I am focused on supporting the leasing team with filling up the Bothasig Gardens Phase 3 development. I have been doing this job for the past three months now and I enjoy everything about my current role! I particularly enjoy the opportunity to directly engage with applicants and new tenants as they begin their journeys with us!
